Title: Brillo 360 build dairy
Post by: ferrari360jd on May 23, 2017, 10:31:33 AM
Hi Trevor , guys  , when this car came to me it was to get the Audi window conversion done , however once I started I found a few things which were not done correctly and so the rebuild starts lol ,

I do wonder who starts these builds,  sometimes they never seem to follow the build DVD  and the bodges people come up with are amazing , probably take longer to do than doing it properly ,

Anyway the first thing I noticed once I stripped the door down was they had not done the handle move, the door lock was only held in with 1 screw  and the Ferrari door skin had parted from the pug door, further investigation led to the door hinges had not had the modifications done hence the reason for the door skin problem , anyway not to bore you I think pictures speak better than words , cheers jd

Hi Trevor , guys  latest update ,ok so once the window and frame were in and working it was time to finish tidying the inner door , the first thing to address was the metal hockey stick had never been fitted to the door which secures the end door cap ,so I fabricated a new one of these and welded it in place and riveted it to the fibreglass door cap then fibreglassed it in place prepared it primed it and painted it ,I then made the brackets to secure the inner metal door panel back in place , iv also got the roof just about on its final skimming on this side so  job done , pasenger side now started , here's a few pics cheers jd

Hi Trevor , guys time for a little update , so the passengers side window is all fitted and working now it's time to finish the roof and start some bodywork ,
As iv had a few messages about the window conversion here are a few pis which should help ( sorry for using your build thread Trevor ) but this shows what's involved,
Ok once you hav the window and frame cut and in place you need to make a bracket to mount the Peugeot window motor to the Audi frame pic 1
You then need to cut the 3 spacer s off the Audi motor , pic 2
Then remove the plate from top of Audi motor and remove the white splined bush  pic 3
The bush needs to be cut down pic 4
Then you need to remove the circlip from the Peugeot motor that holds the metal sprocket in place pic 5
Ok now is the tricky part  you need to grind down the top sprocket off the Peugeot motor and weld a small m8 nut onto it while this is still hot you need to press the nylon white bush down onto this and putting a bolt through the centre tighten it up into the m8 nut thus pulling the bush flush with the sprocket pic 6
Now you need to cut the metal pin on the Peugeot motor flush with the first sprocket then fit the sprocket back in  place pic 7
Fit the newly made fixing plate in place and your ready to assemble it all together pic 8
Wow that sounds complicated lol  good look or just pm me cheers jd
First pis is pic 1

Hi trev , guys time for a little up date ,  ok so with the windows all done and the the roof all preped up ready to prime and paint  which is what the car came in for originaly it was time to look at a list of jobs trev had found wrong with the car, the first thing was the bonnet was sticking up high on the passenger side  near the windscreen, this was due to the hinge being welded up in the wrong place ,so iv now rewelded it up in the correct place and the bonnet sits perfect now .
The next thing was the drivers side rear quartet was sitting about an inch and a half further out past the wheel than the passenger side and there were 2 new cracks in the fibre glass that had appeared since trev bought the car  , on inspection  ohh dear the rear corner must of had a little tinkle with a bolard or another car at some point , the rear frame was bent holding the quarter out and who ever had fixed it ( what a bodge ) they had left it bent then pop riveted  a couple of plates under the cracked fibre glass and just filled it with bodge , including just bodging  the light panel to the quarter ,
Ok so I cut the light panel off which showed the reasons for the cracks,  the rear frame was not attached anymore the welds had bracken away along with some of the frame supports missing  so the whole rear end of the car was lose ,and to add more insult who ever did it fitted the rear bumper back on with only 1 out of 4 nuts .
Ok not to bore you anymore  I can now say it's all straight again and welded up with new support bars , iv also tidied all the wiring up and painted all the rear frame ,
I'm now on with the rear quarter,  it's all fibreglassed back up and I'm  on with the prep work  he's a few pics cheers jd

Title: Re: Brillo 360 build dairy
Post by: ferrari360jd on July 13, 2017, 09:03:15 AM
Rear light panel removed to show damage

Title: Re: Brillo 360 build dairy
Post by: ferrari360jd on July 13, 2017, 09:11:57 AM
This pic shows over an inch of filler in some places. Straight over the damaged quarter with no repairs to the fibreglass first , hence the reason for the cracks

Title: Re: Brillo 360 build dairy
Post by: ferrari360jd on July 13, 2017, 09:15:40 AM
The end of the quarter didn't even line up with the light panel so I had to cut it off and refibreglassed it in the correct place

Title: Re: Brillo 360 build dairy
Post by: ferrari360jd on July 13, 2017, 09:18:24 AM
This is everything fibreglassed back into place

Hi Trevor , guys  well I'm back from a fab holiday in France and straight back in at the deep end lol
I Finished up the rear quarter repair then cut the hole for the 3rd brake light and made  and bonded some brackets to fasten it to, then in the booth she went for a coat of sealer followed by 2 coats of primer filler , now it's been baked at low temp  I will still let it settle for a few days before final prep and paint , here's a few pics cheers jd

Hi Trevor , guys  here's a little update , while I'm letting the primer filler settle and doing work on the other projects ( which will follow once Trevs is finished ) iv done a few jobs that I found needed doing as well as a couple off Trevs list , first up I replaced the petrol filler lever which had been glued on and had fallen off lol then I replaced the cable which was another bodge leading up to the petrol flap , iv hovered the drivers compartment out as it was full of glass off a previous broken  window  , when I removed the seat I found it was only held in by to bolts so I made 2 more brackets and fitted another 2 bolts so it's held in place properly now , iv also fitted a new rear bulk head  to keep all the exhaust fumes out the inside of the car , so only a few more jobs to finish then paint and she will be done , cheers jd . will post some pics later when I get more time .
