anyone know what year a MK 5 is - 2008???? and would need a bonnet off a MK 3?? which is what year??
What about the lights, rears, fog and reflectors, would you use existing if they are the same??

Any 3 door focus from 2005 onwards can be used.

This one is NOT suitable (mk1 1998-2005)

Also ONLY 3 DOOR models are suitable

Next is a Mk 2 (2005 - 2008)

This is the first model that is suitable but the doors will not have the correct crease near the top. This can be dealt with in a few ways

1) get the exrtreme modified panels, which they are working on at the moment. These blend the crease out & mean you can use the original earlier doors. Obviously this wont look as accurate as the genuine RS, but if it will be noticable remains to be seen.

2) get a set of doors from a later car that have the crease.

Then 2008 onwards which look like this

and have the crease already.

Headlamps are projector on the RS & the high spec ST's the standard cars dont have the projector, but are exactly the same shape.

The bonnet has to be from a  2008 onwards model. The RS bonnet has air scoops and a lip otherwise it is exactly the same.

All mounting points for the panels and lights are the same for cars after the MK1

Front lights have to be from 2008 onwards. Rear lights will be the same as the donor car as all rear lights were the same from 2005 on.

Rear fog/reversing lights are the same on post 2005 cars and will fit the RS.

Replica alloys are available on the bay of fleas, spacers will only be small so should be able to use either small adaptors or actual spacers provided longer studs are fitted. personally I would put a set of the extreme lamborghini fake brake discs and calipers on but put the RS logo on instead & take it to a ford show!! That would give em something to talk about!! Heheeh!

Badges.....?? Dunno yet, but should be available from ford.

Interiors are very similar, really just need a set of nice aftermarket seats with the RS symbol stiched in.

 ;D ;D ;D

gotta ask , why bother? i get the whole fake ferrari thing, cost, running cost, even the four seat argument but ...................................... how much would it cost in total to convert a focus and how much is a genuine one, doesnt the whole appeal of the focus RS centre around performance and heritage, its just a pimped focus with a bodykit otherwise?

edit. just spotted the price, suppose if its your thing.... new RS £27ish, just think the cost will soon add up,  decent car in the first place, paint ,wheels, suspension, interior, doors, etc.................................cap off for taking the trouble to try it,  just for the money a 360 or 430 would be so much more appealing.

Very light damage focus - £2000-2500 tops (straight ones can be had for 3k)
Kit - £2000
Wheels - £500
lights - 200
bonnet - 100
doors - 200
badges - 100
lowering springs - 180
paint - 400
Misc - 320

Total - £6500

Plus you can sell the panels you remove

The last RS replica on ebay sold for just short of £15k...... getting the idea?  ;D

Genuines like you said cost just short of 30k. If you want the pose factor without the insurance cost and huge loan then do it on a 1.4 or 1.6.

If you want the 'heritage' and power, then do as extreme have done & get a damaged ST. No slouch at over 220bhp and easily tunable to RS outputs.

That's not totally true.  I've been keeping a very close eye on the RS replicas on eBay over the past couple of months.  I've not seen a single one actually sell for that much - I've seen them advertised around £15k but the only ones I have actually seen sell all went for just less than, or just over £10,000.

This one is a good example, all original Ford parts (and full original Ford RS interior), I sort of expect that someone somewhere lost a genuine RS and this is the result.  Shame it's build on a diesel.  'Sold' for £10,300 and the seller had already listed it twice without attracting bids that high.

That auction shows the reserve wasnt met that time at £10,300

If its the same one, it actually showed it as sold around a month ago on ebay for £14,300 IIRC. It also has the wrong interior for the car colour. I enquired about the car & it was previously a write off, which combined with the diesel engine is obviously going to affect the number of potential buyers.

I was illustrating the costs to show it wouldnt be a money pit you were throwing your cash at, but an investment you could enjoy & sell on at a profit.

Even if you did assume they go for 10K, I still think its well worth doing.

They should do someting like this http://www.carbodykits.com/Body-01-07-LUDWIG-MERCEDES-SLK-R230-01-07-BLACK-SERIES-CONVERSION-KIT.html at a decent price. It looks far better than the dtm or ST. It even fits the 01 sl

Front lights have to be from 2008 onwards. Rear lights will be the same as the donor car as all rear lights were the same from 2005 on.

Rear fog/reversing lights are the same on post 2005 cars and will fit the RS.
Actually the rear lights on mk3 focus' are LED and have clear lenses. This is quite conincedental actually, as I've been lurking for a while, but actually have an 08 3 door focus. Mines a 1.6 zetec. It was a cat D, so I gave it an ST kit. If this had come out sooner then...
I'd have had one. As it stands, not now, though I'm not 17 till the 7th of Jan, so there's time yet!
Looks tasty!

I like the idea of a Focus RS, but it's not the same as a Lambo or Ferrari replica.

The real Lamborghinis or Ferraris are far too expensive, so a replica is a good route to take, but doing a RS replica isn't as justified if you ask me. Yes it's cheap and will look good and can be tuned to the same performance, you may as well pay the extra few grand on eBay for a real RS.

Having a fake Ford for £6,500 isn't really worth it, whereas a fake Lambo or Ferrari for £25,000 ish is worth it.

i disagree, think this will open up a seperate market all together. Remember when i first passed my driving test i got a 1.4 escort and made it into an rs turbo replica so looked the part. second car got a newer escort 1.6 and made it into a cosworth replica which everyone loved.

nowadays, yes a lambo rep is more appealing but the younger generation are not gonna have that kind of money or get insured. Just a thought and my opinion.

Hi,

aak1203, when you made your escorts look like an RS Turbo and Cossie, did you tell the insurance companies? I would have thought that would have given those cars a bank busting premium.

well told them had bodykit, alloys, lowered etc which is technically correct! premium was high as young at the time but mods only put it up a few hundred. But there are insurance firms out there specialising in modded cars and do good deals. Had alot of fun driving around at age of 19 at college in what looked like a cossie and sounded beefy. Chicks loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!mates loved it, i loved it. Unfortunatley it ended up wrapped round an oak tree. I matured on the road alot more since then!! but would love to fingers crossed next year i do the merc build.

I don't think the insurance premiums should go up, they should come down if anything.

Once these cars, be it a the Lambo rep, one of the Ferrari reps or this RS rep, are completed, they're obviously classed as a kit car as we know, not a 'modified' one. Yes insurance will go up if you tell the companies it's modified but with kit cars insurance should be dirt cheap.

I personally found myself a quote from a specialist insurance firm that insures things like kit cars, caravans and quad bikes etc for one of the Ferrari reps and it was under £200. And I'm 20 having only held a license for just over two years with no claims or convictions of any sort.

So who was that with then? Cos I'm twice your age with a clean licence and mine costs more than that.
