Before I start I have not yet welded in the frames and only screwed the panels on
When I am happy with all the shut lines and fitment I will then weld in the frames and start bonding on what panels need it
The Front Bumper and Wings will be bonded together and will be able to be removed as one panel

21st October 2014

Welded the brackets to both hinges for the bonnet, then I cut off the excess metal.
Also cut and drilled the near side door lock panel for the lock

22nd October 2014

Spent all day on her today
Fitted the bonnet, made sure it was square to the car by measuring it off of the same places on both sides.
Thought this would help with the fitment of the wings
Had to lay the badge down for cosmetic reasons  ;)

Made up the Near Side door, I then fitted the inner wing and Near Side wing. I have welded in the wing strap to the front frame and suspension tower.
Next I fitted the rear wing. Not a bad fit but still need to tweak it here and there. It only has one screw at the bottom into the original wing, and two at the top into the roof.
There seems to be a bit of tension, where it touches the leg of the frame that goes in between the original rear wing and boot inner panel. Is this normal?
The frame is into the roof inner skin as low as it can possibly go.
This leg isn’t touching anything on the car. It has a 2mm gap, ready to be welded up.

I then temporary fitted the rear light panel and rear bumper, because I could  ;D

To be continued..........

Hi Mickey,

Is the rear quarter intake clear on the inside against the original rear quarter, sometimes you have to bash (I mean carefully adjust), to allow the quarter to sit properly. Also, I see that you cut out the quarter window, as it fouls on there as well.

Cheers

Hi Guys
Yes the original rear wing has been carefully adjusted ????
It is definitely the smaller leg of the rear frame that is causing the tension.
As I have not yet welded it, I am going to pull it down to see if it is any better.

Ok Mickey,
The small leg, is this the one that goes onto the fixing points where the boot lid used to go?
The framework for the rear of the car, is not always spot on. I had to bend the bottom right bumper mounting plate up, for it to sit straight, so it is possible that the part you mentioned could be out of true.
Also found that I had to move the engine cover mount plates onto other side of box section which negated the need for spacers.
Post a pic as it is a thousand words mate

Cheers ????

Hi Alex, The brackets for the volvo hinges need to be on the back of the box section (side closest to front of car). The volvo hinges need to be modified. In the kit you get 2 bars of steel with a small slot for bolting to the tailgate. The volvo hinge is cut down near the hinge pin and the new bar welded on. This is to eliminate the old problem of the when the tailgate is opened it folds into the roof and takes work to get it so it just misses. Changing the hinge point means when the tailgate opens it moves away from the roof. Hope this is understandable lol. We're out of stock of these but have got some on order of which we will send mick some aswell. We'll have some in for when you pick your suspension kit up.

Many Thanks

Hi Alex
It is the outside leg that is not bolted into the original boot fixings.
I have opened up the gap some more, pulled it down using a ratchet strap and put a couple of tack welds. The rear wing still sits on this leg and fits a lot better now, needs a little more tweaking though before I move onto the next side ;)
Will sort it all out once I get the plates for adapting the Volvo hinges from the eXtreme guys  :)

Spent all day tweaking the rear wing.
Pulling it here, pushing it there. Getting the door shuts right.
Wow what a complete pain in the beeeeeeep  ;)

Any how, it is now where I want it. Yay.... thought I was never gonna get it right haha.
Will hopefully make a start on the Off Side door in a couple of days.
Then I can sort out the Off side rear wing  :(

Also have a question for any 360 builders out there.
Could you please measure the distance from the top rear frame, where the catch will be fitted, down to the boot floor for me.
I have the build DVD, but I have been informed it is mostly for a 430, and the distance it says on the DVD is 440mm.
Thanks
Mick
