Just really messin about , playing around with bits and bobs , ordering stuff buying doner cars for bits , but all the ground work is done so hopefully will be just a case of putting together once space framing is done , then get the new engine and box dropped in :) I keep going to car and putting the pannels on :) big kid

Haha I think we are all big kids when it comes to these cars.
It was all I could think off when I was waiting to collect my kit, and now when I am at work or out ( out out ), all I think about is what next I'm going to do to my car
Christ knows what I will do when I have finished it, suppose I will have to spend more time with the wife

Haha, like the way you're thinking

I have just had a rough measure up for the spacers and was wondering what other builders spacer measurements where
The tyres I have are 285's
I know different wheels and tyres will produce different measurements, but my rear spacer measurement comes out at 45mm, and I thought that sounds a bit small
This will give me a 20mm gap from the side of the tyre to the inside lip of the rear wheel arch

I will double check all my measurements again tomorrow though, just to make sure

Thanks for any replies
Mick

I have rechecked the measurements this morning, and the rear spacers will need to be 70mm, which to me seems more like it
But.......

The fronts work out to be that no spacers are needed...... What the  :-X
How the hell am I going to fit the wheels, the actual hub and disc brake will need to be altered to the correct PCD
Is this possible

The car was jacked up on the suspension to replicate it sitting on wheels
Rear measurements:-

Rear hub face to rear wing lip --------------------  225mm
Rear wheel hub face to outside of tyre -----------  135mm
Gap between tyre and wing lip -------------------    20mm
Subtract 20 + 135 from 225 will give a spacer size of 70mm

Front measurements :-
Front hub face to front wing lip ------------------ 150mm
Front wheel hub face to outside of tyre ---------- 120mm
Gap between tyre and wing lip -------------------  30mm
Again 150-120-30 = a big fat 0

Is this the time to start panicking  :o

Now you have me panicking lol
These are the ones the guy that started the project had made...

11cm 8.5cm seem massive really built with q7 wheels in mind 10j all round (scrapped that idea) hoping to strike lucky with porsche wheels (same pcd as audi) iv not measured anything yet and dont really want to fork out for different spacers hoping to make these work...

Hi Mick, Have you put the wheels in the position you would like them with the suspension under load and measured the gap between the hub mounting face and the mounting face of the wheel. This will give rough size on the spacers. Do you know the offset and width of the wheels as i can do some working out to compare you measurements with. The spacers on alex's car for the genuine 360 wheels where supplied by us. They are a two piece spacer to adapt from the 4 stud to 5 stud. The first part is steel and the second parts is aluminium with steel inserts pressed in from the back which are drilled and tapped. This means you are always bolting into steel and not alloy threads which are not sufficient enough for wheel spacers.

I'd say that aluminium is perfectly sufficient for 2-part spacers provided its machined correctly. There are plenty of high performance track cars that have employed 2-part aluminium spacers (100mm) that have never had an issue.

We need to bear in mind that a wheel does not generate downforce and the wheel studs/first plate spacer do not actually support the weight of the vehicle. In fact, even the wheel bearings are not placed under any additional stress with spacers, its a change in the wheels ET that results in additional stress. In that event, with hub centric spacers we’re only really concerned with the torsional stresses applied which on a vehicle are not excessive and even generic aluminium can provide well above the required 60% of yield for both axial/torsional forces provided its threaded to 1.5x to 2x of the thread diameter.  ;)

Thanks for all the information eXtreme and Lacie, I do appreciate it
As for my wheels, I have had a quick measure up and it is as follows

Front wheel rim width is 240
Divide that by 2 = 120
The hub face to the rear of the wheel rim is 140
Subtract 140 from 120 gives -20
So that makes a positive ET20

Is that correct ???
Cheers
Mick

Hi Mick, it depends on where you taking the measurement from on for the width of the wheel. Remember the width of the wheel is not the total width of the wheel but the measurement of the section between the tyre mounting flanges. See diagram below which explains wheel width and offsets. It should be marked on the back of the wheel the offset and also the wheel width which is measured in inches and will be marked down as 8.5j for example. Like i said its best to get the wheel physically in place where you think it sits best according to the wheel arch and measure the gap between the hub and the mounting face of the wheel. We have the sizes of the spacers needed for genuine wheels to get them in the right place so if you can get us the details on the wheels i should be able to work it out for you.

Hi Guys

I have just found my receipt and they are 8.5 x 19 with an ET20

There is some writing on the back of the wheel but it is impossible to read due to being painted over
I took the measurement by laying the wheel down, placed a straight edge across the top and measured from floor to straight edge
I can't measure the inside of the rim as I have tyres fitted
The tyres do not stick out further than the rims on the front wheels, so when I measured from the floor it was the actual rim sitting flush on the floor
I will see if I jack car back up again on the suspension tomorrow, and see if there is space for an adaptor
Thanks again for your help

Mick
