Cerberus new exhaust project.
« on: October 18, 2016, 07:58:22 PM »
As you all know my Cerberus build is going well.
I have hit a small wall and need to divert my attention to a modification.
Ok where I live it's kinda posh. With well to do neighbours. What what what!  ;D
I'm glad I can afford to live in such an area because if I lived in a shit hole I wouldn't be building Cerberus because of the fear of it going walkies.
Yes we have had break ins the same as anybody else but it's a little better than that here.
Anyway back to my wall.
Every time I start up Cerberus my neighbours complain. It does my head in. Moan moan moan.
I try to do it when they are out but I need to get the job done.
The last thing I want is to fall out with hitler 2 doors down.
Yes I could tell them to F off but that's not going to do me any favours.
My problem is that Cerberus is just to loud. Yes it sounds great as it rumbles ticking over but it's no good in a residential area.
So I need to build a new exhaust system.
I'm looking into building a electronic exhaust bypass system for Cerberus.
So basically I have it switched into quiet mode around the houses and at home. Meaning the exhaust goes through some silencers to make the car tick over and run the same as any other 2 litre standard car.
I can then select open and the exhaust bypasses the silencers and goes straight out so it can wake the dead.
Vrooommm. Down the high street  8) but shhhh on the driveway.
Then everybody's happy.
Ok so my first point of discussion is my big silencer. I only want to use one so it needs to be quite big so silence this beast.
If I put a silencer from a 2 litre vectra on it. It would be like putting a kink in your garden hose. So much back pressure the car won't run properly.
So maybe something from a much bigger engine like a V6 or V8?
What size of engine would be similar flow to a mr2 turbo?

JD recommended to me an in exhaust silencer. Something like this..

http://r.ebay.com/s7RxdF

It did tone down mine a bit but it's still quite loud :-)  Might give you more options. It rumbles on tick over.. but I've not been anywhere in mine yet so not sure if it's quiet'ish until 2k revs.. which is what I'm after.. just toddle round the estate before going balls out.. lol

I have finally made my mind up about what to do with Cerberus engine.
I did think about keeping the 2 litre turbo lump and modifying the exhaust. But.
I paid a visit to a Ferrari garage this week for a chat about what's best.
This ferrari garage is a independant service specialist and they have been interested in my lambo from the start.
Sitting in there was a Ferrari F40. Of course I was all over it like a rash.
I was telling them about my neighbour problem.
So he started it up.  8)
My god it's loud. It makes my lambo sound quiet. Bloody neighbours don't know what they are on about.
It also made me realise how shite the mr2 turbo engine sounds compared to a real super car.  :-[
It's the ultimate give away.
You can't polish a turd but you can put glitter on it. :-\
And the poor old 2 litre 4 cylinder is abit of a old turd.
So I'm scrapping the modified exhaust idea and I'm 100% going for a Woodsport v6 conversion.
My progress will continue on my thread. ;)
