Good bye spacers
« on: February 04, 2017, 11:51:22 PM »
At the moment the wheels have massive spacers on the back of Cerberus to make the real Lamborghini wheels fit.
The huge spacers are not a great idea if I am to increase the power of the engine soon.
I have 2 options. I can extend all the wishbones, arms and driveshafts so that the discs and hubs are out further so the wheels bolt directly to the hubs.
I'm sure this option will be impossible. But can it be done?
Is the stud pattern different on the mr2 compared to the Lamborghini wheels?
Hence the spacers do the wheel nut configuration?
Or I can simply buy new split rim wheels with a very deep dish to fit the huge 355 wide tyres on the back
The wheels would then fit directly to the hubs but the tiny discs and calipers would look crap behind the wheels.
What sort of discs and calipers could I fit to fill the wheels to look similar to the massive fake discs and calipers already fitted?
My lambo wheels are 18"
1st photo is the huge rear wheel spacer fitted on to the original mr2 brake disc.
2nd photo is the imitation disc and caliper fitted on the spacer.
What I would like to achieve is the 2nd photo but with real discs and calipers.

I looked into this about 2 year ago when I was doing my build and it's just way to expensive to get the drives lengthened the only way out is with the spacers I'm afraid  :(

Yes I had the feeling this would be the case.
Getting everything correct and aligned to run straight would be impossible.
I am looking in to the only other way and that's to do away with the spacer. Fit a very deep dish split rim wheel so that basicly your still bolting the wheel straight to the mr2 hub.
The problem is that when fitting a bigger and more powerful engine the poor old spacers will simply sheer off.
Like ringing out a wet flannel.
That wouldn't be good. Give it some beans and your back wheels fall off.
I'm going to visit a wheel specialist later this week to find out what my options are.

Hi AP , nothing is impossible mate in fact extending or even making new wishbones is quite a simple task ,also there are quite a few companies who will extend your drive shafts and not silly prices ,if you take the time to look at my build dairy page 20 you will see my rear suspension set up  and my drive shafts were re tubed for £150 each . Also useing rose joints allows for any adjustments to be carried out easily ie rear tracking and camber , cheers jd

Hi I got quoted £200 each for custom drive shafts that's from 01e gearbox to mr2 hubs I think the company was bailey or something. I'll try to find the card he gave me.

Hi.
Unfortunately I wouldn’t go down this road unless you can afford to do it properly.
I decided to stick with my spacers but upgrade the brakes.
My reasons were because you need the spacers to adapt the wheels stud pattern from mr2 to Lamborghini.
My lambo just dosent look right with after market wheels.
To upgrade your brakes from crappy mr2 to some serious meat you should go to hi spec motorsport.
Mine cost well over 3k for the 4 discs and calipers.
But there well worth it. They certainly stop you and look fantastic.
Decent aftermarket wheels to fit a lambo will set you back up to £1000 per wheel.
So what ever you go for it’s not cheap.
