Batwing / spoiler controller
« on: May 07, 2010, 08:22:11 AM »
Well I got chance last week to have a play with the controller I'm building. My MR2 dials are at home and the speedo is the old cable driven version.

I wrote some code last week that now reads the pulse from the speedo and converts this into MPH. I've also coded up so it controls the actuator / relay that operate's the spoiler / batwings.

I attached a variable drill to the back of the speedo and span it upto 80mph. Everythings working great and operating as it should be.

Whilst I'm in the development stage is there any other things that could be added ? I was thinking about adding a couple of buttons so you can control the spoiler / batwings manual.. any ideas ?

I will put up a youtube video this weekend of it.

I'd say a manual override is essential "just in case".
I'm not sure when you've got them set to rise atm, I'm assume at slower speeds?  If that is the case, what about also lowering the bat wings when you select reverse in order to get a slightly clearer view behind?  (and to look a bit posy!
From what i remember i think you've got a camera/sensors anyway?  But as that annoying bint on the adverts says "every little helps"! ;)

There set at...

Batwings..
After 30 seconds they go up. At 80mph they go in and come back out if you drop below 70.

Spoiler..
Comes up at 50mph and goes down at 30mph

These can be altered to whatever you want.. just a case of changing a few numbers in the code..

I hadn't thought about dropping them if selecting reverse.. shouldn't be a problem and top idea.. :-) Will just mean an extra wire.

I am at the moment looking then at the following.

Power + and -
Speed input wire
2 Actuator wires for the spoiler
1 Batwing feed wire
2 fly button wires for the override function. Still looking into this but was thinking on the lines of pressing them will activate on / off / auto mode
1 reverse override wire
1 Alarm flap batwings wire (attach boot release) this will allow you to flap them from your keyfob :-)

Any other ideas ?

Steve

Could you post a link, where you can see a spoiler on the lambo??

And where can I buy it?

Does the murcie kit contain the batwings?
