newbie plan to build custom chasis, what material to use?
« on: January 18, 2012, 12:08:34 PM »
hello everyone,

I'm new to building cars but am very interested, might get someone to work with me, I saw many builders work and from what i could see the main material is steel, I thought these are heavy, if a replica is too heavy it's not good for speed right? The reason I want to build a custom chasis is I want to make it very light weight, anyone used aluminum for chasis? is it good for welding and can it with stand high speed and turning?

I would imagine that if designed properly aluminium would be fine but I'd want a professional to design it for me.
