First i adjusted the part of the rear quarter where the rear glass sits on...i filled up the void using upol-b which is a fibreglass paste... Nice stuff to work with..

Next was to sand the lump of paste to line it up with the surface... The ridge obove the quarter window has to be filled also but i'll do that later on to have some playing room during the process..

In order to further alter the A-pillar i removed the upper skin ( the top out of 3 layers). I did this by drilling out every single spotweld using a 3mil dril first and a 9mm drill afterwards. With a pit of prying with a screwdriver the the top skin came off nicely...

To be continued...

Had a nice day in the car today... Been Working on the inside of the door ... I made all the brackets to fit the oem electric window motor and guide rails.. Till now it's a smooth operation.. The carton template and all the oem parts help a lot in the puzzle... Tomorrow i think ill be able to put the glass in and do a test run... The only hazard is the metal bar on the front of the door that holds the door open... I grinded the end off because it was in the way of the fron guide rail when the door is closed... Other then that im pretty happy so far...

Big milestone in my build! Got the window glass working!!!! Everything is loose still but i'm 99% sure i'll get it working! It fits well i the door and i think it is easyer to install then the audi glass as long as you got the paper trace of the inside of an oem door.. If anyone wants it, im happy to make another one and send it over.

Cheers!

Had a few hours on the car today...

I've shortenes the door and welded the hockey stick in and mounted the fibreglass cap on the end of the door. Now i was able to dry fit the quarter panel and fully close the door at the same time..
Next i layer the quarter window in to see how the glass was aligning

After adjusting the lower back bracket more inward the door glass aligned better to the quarter glass...

Almost there! Just a bit more tweaking....

And now we have a perfect allignment!! BOOM!!!

There are still 2 problems i have to solve...

I have to remove a little of the area between my fingers..

The part that guides the door in different opening postitions is also a little in the way of the guide rail... I hope it will go around it but i think i have to move that thing down...

Tomorrow i'll be looking at that...

Cheers!!

Thanx mate...

Been tweaking the window bit more today... But now i have come to a point where i need to contunue on my fresh donor...i need the quarters perfectly fitted in place to be able to permanently weld in all the brackets that hold the window motor...

I think i cut off the entire A pillar - b post section when i have the quarters fitted in place... Then allign the glass correctly... Then adjust the A pillars an weld them back on the car...

Some pics of today...

I think i try one last thing... And that is cutting out the a pillar completely. I want to cut it below the horizontal edge and round towards the dash.. Then i move that piece towards the back of the car and weld it back in... Then i can fully adjust the A pillar perfectly to meet up with the strip i think...

In order to allow the guide rail to sit in the correct angle i had to cut out this section of the door

Next was to reconstruct to lower part of the door and move the hinges towards the front of the car...

I cut out that area to be able to reposition the door hinge rorrect..

Hey dman, I can tell this is going to be another fine example just from this build diary.

Great road trip diary, looks like the lads over here were willing to offer some good old English hospitality (plenty of beer). I have relatives who own Ned Kelly's in Den Haag so I know what all night drinking can be like over there.

Looking forward to more of your build updates.

Tone
