If you use the 32v engine you'll probably need a new ecu if you use the 40v engine, you should be able to get the ecu remapped

Try and get a Audi V8 and 2WD Transaxle from the same car. If you get a AWD box you will need to convert it to 2WD.

Here are a few Audi V8 Conversions

Lotus 4 cylinder to an Audi V8 with Tiptronic

Toyota MR2 MKI with Audi V8 and 5 Speed

VW Transport with Audi V8 and Tiptronic

No its the relationship with the ecu and the immobiliser, its hard wired in on the 32v ecu, so you either need to change the chips on the ecu or use a third parrty. With  the 40v cars have they newer ecu where its all done in software, so can be reporgrammed.

In the photos above the first is actually Andy Hills which is a manual not tiptronic and is the six speed 01X/E box.

As long as the gearbox is from a 5 cylinder or 6 cylinder audi it will bolt onto the V8 engine block. The best box is the 01e or 01x which is a six speed but the 5 speed box will do fine too.

IIRC In the UK all Audi V8's were quattro auto's, in europe there was the occasional V8 quattro manual but are very rare.

I'ma couple of weeks away from making my own flywheel as the 034mototsport one is expensive and thay also have ring  gear supply problems

Ive read a few places that the audi gearboxes got problems with holding more than 300whp. Is there any way to reinforce them?
My 996 transmission was so expensive and if i could go with a audi tranny for half the price then ... !

The 01E and 01Xg et dodgy at 600hp not sure about the others, I wouldnt use a petrol though, stick with a diesel box, designed for high amounts of torque low down

MC  you know your stuff but its not so with the ecu mine is up and running but does need some work as the ecu still thinks the engine is running a auto box so retards on gearchange other wise runs just fine
but bloody hard work i do recommend a stand alone ECU

Well Like I said W12 with a TipTronic from a A8L for me. The Transaxle converted to 2WD cost new just over £23000.00

If you are looking at buying NEW Audi Engine and Trasaxle as a Unit

Below are estimated prices of the engines and gearboxes

V8 engine and box £17576.23

V10 engine and box £21145.98

W12 engine and box £23157.56

sorry MC as for your question how ive done it is ive fitted the complete loom
removed the mr2 loom and put the audi loom in its place as for the clocks i plan on reworking them using
the lambo dial face from lockwood, all the switches will be changed for the little ali LED ones
looking good so far not a complete replica set up but good enough to fool some real car buffs that have seen it so far including lambo owners
